Just bought a 2004 Dodge Sebring with 100K plus miles, supposedly has a leak out the 'top' of the automatic transmission. Checked the fluid level with the motor running, barely any on the stick, added some fluid. With motor off the level shows overfilled? Just what is the proper method to check the level- the owners manual is not very clear on this.

Do you mean Chrysler Sebring?

CHECKING FLUID LEVELS

1. Drive vehicle until engine and transaxle are at normal operating temperature. Park vehicle on level surface. Apply parking brake. Turn engine off. Connect scan tool to data link connector. See Fig. 4.

2. Start engine. Using scan tool, read transmission fluid temperature. Using transmission fluid temperature displayed on scan tool, determine proper fluid level on dipstick. See Fig. 5. Add appropriate type of transmission fluid if necessary. DO NOT overfill transaxle. Turn engine off and remove scan tool.
