2004 Dodge Intrepid Water pump....lol!!!!

Getting this one done , I might be in over my head?! Pulling the crankshaft pulley probably difficult but not to worried. The timing chain removal is my biggest concern. I do not have a clue on this for I have never tore down an engine before. I am aware that this could destroy my engine if not done properly. The tool for the timing chain tensioner and making sure I don't mess up the timing and blow my engine is where I could use some advice. Have worked on my own vehicles since 1994 but this one takes the cake! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This is an interference engine. If the timing isn't correct, it will most likely cause damage to the cylinder heads and valves. Are you sure you want to learn on this one? lol

SUBJECT: 2004 Dodge Intrepid 2.7L /water pump/....Wouldn't learn on this one by choice!!! I got a decent head on my shoulders and some know how through the years.This particular marvel of engineering design, from what I've seen on youtube is not liked by most! I have fluid coming from the weep hole at the thermostat not the weep hole on the water pump itself but the Haynes manual doesn't separate between the two when it says to replace the water pump if weep hole discharge is a considerable amount. In my case it was all of my coolant. Did not overheat the engine, for it was all on my driveway the next day after parking from work.When I tried to locate the (leak) my car ran for about an hour ( after refilling coolant system ) with no signs of leakage. The car got up to temp and then temp dropped back down about 2 or 3 times and then is when I finally had some leaking and located it's source ie thermostat weep hole. Now way easier of a fix I know but I also know how notorious these water pumps are on these models........

You're lucky!!! That is a much easier repair. As far as the water pump, don't get into it unless it is bad or you decide to change the belt. If the belt is replaced, do the pump at the same time. On the flip side, if the pump goes bad, replace the belt at the same time.

Yeah the leaking from the weep hole drivers side block is a red flag for the water pump, so I put it back together and sent it to the shop so they could have some fun LOL!! I will stick with my 96 dodge 318 5.2L! Thanks for all the help and suggestions! God Bless
