my 2004 dodge dakota seems to have a strange knock from the top end of the motor what could cause that

If it is an internal knock, it could be cam bearings. Does it change with engine speed? Does it ever go away? The 3.9 V6 is a long lasting engine, so if you have kept your oil changed, it shouldn't be that.
