Sounds like a misfire due to a blown head gasket, get a head check done, this is a simple and quick chemical test to check for Co in the cooling system, if this is positive you will have a head problem.

it will depend on how much work will have to be done, with this it is just impossible to say with out stripping it first, I would get the confirmation that it is a head problem first and then ask foe a quote to supply and fit a reco change over head, your mechanic will be able to do this quote very accurately.
