Driver's side, rear of the transmission bell housing, right next to and below the rear cylinder head. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

I need to find the crankshaft position sensor. I have the diagram form alldata and have used numerous descriptions from answers I have found on the internet. I am looking on the drivers side where the bell housing meets the block. It is not there!

Electrical problem

Car will crank but not start. Trouble code 0320 shows which per my research is Crankshaft position sensor. Have auto manual, but cannot find where sensor is located for this year vehicle by pictures-only says that it is at the back of the trans axle. I have a 3.8L. Can anyone tell me how to find it and what it looks like? I looked up the replacement part at a parts store, but do not recognize it on the engine.

Crankshaft sensor is located on the transmission bell housing (Where engine/trans meet) underneath exhaust crossover pipe.

See the diagram below for location

BWD!!! does not mean, that is just the name of the sensor as found in the auto part store........ 2002 Chrysler Town & Country ENGINE 3.3
I've seen some photos where is the sensor position, but I can not identify it in my car, so if you know where this sensor, please be explicit everything you can because I'm no expert

Okay, I'll do my best. The sensor is located on the top of the transmission housing. It is near the corner of the rear exhaust manifold manifold. When you open the hood of the vehicle and are standing at the front of it, the transmission and transmission housing will be closer to the right side of the compartment. It is where the trans and engine are bolted together. I have attached a picture to help.

Greetings. I have a 2001 T&C. I was driving it a few days ago and it just shut off. It cranks strong but doesn't fire at all. I have verified that it is pumping fuel. I used a spark plug tester to determine I am not getting spark. OBD II Codes are P0442, P0118, P0123, P00455, & P1193. I have researched these codes as best I could but none of them seem to indicate anything that would prevent a start. I have been told to check the Crankshaft sensor but the description in the Chilton's manual is so vague I can't actually find the dang thing. It has also been suggested that it might be the PCM. Is there any way to test the PCM independently? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi
This should be good lots of codes. Three of the five all point to possible PCM fault. So need some info locate the ECT will be in intake near thermostat housing. Measure voltage on violet/orange wire? Then post. Crankshaft sensor right side engine below exhaust manifold about middle block. Need to get at underneath.
Let me know
Thanks for donate
If Chilton can show you 5volt PCM reference check voltage on TPS and Inlet air temp sensor

Okay, well, finally, after some additional experimentation and testing we determined to replace the PCM. Got a used one and installed it and the van fires right up. Now, it only runs for about two seconds and then turns off. It will start right back up again, run for about two seconds, and switch off. I suspect that this is actually something to do with the smart key tech but if I have to tow the van to a dealer (25 miles away) and then pay to have everything reprogrammed that is going to have to wait until I can afford it. Am I on the right track here? Any money saving tips? Thanks for your help.

HI
I own a 2001 t&c lxi with 150000 miles.
a few days ago it just would not fire.
we tried replaceing coil and the crank shaft, no fire.
fuel flows, electric is fine.
some guy ran hooked it up and got some codes(i don't know which).
he says i need to replace the bcm(body control module).
another shop took their chances or "my chances" i should say, and claims i need a pcm not a bcm.
i am realy hoping this could be done without spending a furtone.
i was wondering how did it work out for you, it seems you had a similar problem.
thank you very much for sharing your experience.

Hi Damon,

I would not try to knock this through. First of all, I doubt it will actually go through because the sensor sits just over a tone wheel and if you even get it through there then you will more than likely damage this tone wheel and then you will be removing the transmission to replace it.

This sits in the bell housing of the transmission and as I said, if it goes through it will not just fall into the oil pan because it is on the top of the transmission and there is not enough clearance between the case and the components inside for it to fall.

I am not sure the best way to get it out but knocking it in will almost guarantee you removing and disassembling the transmission.

Can you get a picture of what it looks like so I can see what we are dealing with and I will see if I have any ideas? Thanks

Holy cow. What is the black around the sensor and on the case? Is that from a torch? If so, the plastic may be melted to the case which is why it is so hard to get out.

I would suggest drilling it out if you can get a drill down there. If not, what you are doing is the best way. Are you trying to put a set of pliers on those two screws and turn it like a screw to break it loose?

If that is just dirt and grime then I would try to soak it in some sort or penetrating oil to try and free some of it up.

Worst case just use a larger and larger screw. Do you have room to get a small slide hammer in there? They have some with a vice grip attachment so you can put it an angle.

Let me know what you have tried and if none of this works and we can go deeper.
