how to replace trunk lift assist hydraulics?

Both trunk and hood hydraulic assist cylinders failed on this car last year. I need to replace them myself.

One end is on a ball. There is a thin u-clip that holds it in place. Remove the clip. Next, the other end is screwed in place.
