How do you change a starter in a Chevy 2004 Tracker 6 cyclinder and what is the proper model # replacement? What tools are needed to complete this work. Car makes a clicking sound when trying to turn car on. Lights, dash logos and seat belt rings as well. Appreciate your help to try and avoid having car towed.

Thank you,

William

Make sure the battery has a full charge and connections all clean and tight. If your going to work on your own vehicles, you need a basic set of wrenches and sockets, standard and metric. I don't know the actual wrench/socket size.

This guide will help with diagrams below to show you how on your car.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-a-starter-motor

disconnect the negative battery cable.
Disconnect the starter solenoid electrical connector.
Remove the retaining nut and positive battery cable from the starter solenoid.
Safely raise and support the vehicle. Safety is your responsibility.
Remove the 2 bolts from the starting motor.
Lower the vehicle.
Remove the starting motor through the front area of the engine compartment between the generator and the inner fender.

Check out the diagrams (Below) of both the 4 and 6 cylinder. Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Where is the starter located on a 2000 Chevy Tracker? It has a 2.0L, 4 cylinder engine.

It will be on the left side of the engine (oil pan height) where the transmission and the engine bolt together. Make sure to disconnect the battery before working on it.
