engine coolant thermostat?

The check engine light turn on and when I try to start the car it turn on but at the moment it turn off that was like 3 times after that, it satrt normally. I went to Advance and they did an electrical test and the answer was that the engine cooling temperature was bellow the normal temperature and that I need the engine coolant thermostat sensor, but the problem is that when I bought the car i bought in an auction and itdid not come with any original manual and books. I need to See a diagram of where is located the sensor in order to change it. Thanks

the code you got most likely is a p0128 code which means the engine temp is too low from an open thermostat. you most likely need a thermostat and a flush.

Hi:
If you follow the upper radiator hose back to the engine, it will take you to the thermostat housing. The t-stat should be in the housing.

To any problems fixed everything to do with cooling system still overheating. Will it run with out a thermostat for a few weeks?

Good morning,

No, do not run it without a thermostat. You will damage the engine to the point it will have to be replaced.

If you remove it you will cut off circulation to the back of the motor and it will cause engine damage.

If you are removing it, just replace it with a new one.

What is the procedure to change the thermostate on the Buick Rendezvous 2002 3.4 6 cyl.

First, disconnect the battery. Next, drain the radiator into a clean pan if you plan to replace it. Next, follow the upper radiaor radiator hose back to tehe the engien. It will lead you to the thermostat housing. Remove the hose from the housing, remove the housing, and the t-start is in there.

Reverse the sequence to replace.

I need to replace my thermostat, and the dealership has given me an estimate of $400 to do it. I am pretty handy under the hood, but can't find a Haynes or Chilton's for this car. How do I do it myself?

Ok first remove the air cleaner lid and intake hose to the throttle body. Drain enough coolant to get it below the level of the thermostat. Now remove the exhaust crossover pipe see first pic. Now remove the upper hose from the thermostat housing and remove the housing (see second pic). Now remove the thermostat and clean the surfaced and install in reverse order. So you will need the thermostat and gasket. Exhaust crossover pipe gaskets and coolant. Small tube of black rtv sealant and some time.
