2004 Audi A3 Manual 22,000 miles. My car makes a rumbling noise when driving, also feels slower than usual and seems to be using petrol much quicker than usual. could it be an exhaust problem?

Have the exhaust system checked for excessive back pressure due to catalytic converter/muffler failure/leakage.
