In cold weather, my 2003 Jetta makes what might be best described as a shuddering noise. This happens for about 2 seconds immediately after starting, and only happens when the engine is not warm. It is not a terribly loud noise, but it is unpleasant and I'm sure indicative of some problem. What might this be and what can I do about it?

The check engine light has been on since i bought the car two years ago. We have a diagnostic tool and it reads that there is one problem (don't remember what) but I had my VW mechanic check it out specifically and he said there was nothing wrong and maybe the sensor was malfunctioning. If there is a new problem now and I hook up the diagnostic will it read the new problem?

If there is a new problem that is related to a sensor, engine problem... yes, it will have an additional trouble code.

I have had the exact problem for a couple weeks and my check engine light just came on. Did you ever diagnose the problem? What is causing this?

Except, I have a 2004 Jetta, all other details are the same as your problem.

I haven't gotten a reply yet. Have you had your computer scanned for trouble codes?
