I have a 03 Suzuki XL7 4WD with 220,000 miles. When I put my car in gear from P to D or P to R it makes a grinding/rattling noise. It also makes that same noise when its idling in P or N, but quits when giving gas. If you stomp on gas hard while driving or idling and let off quick it makes the same noise. It also makes same noise when cutting wheel from left to right. Also makes same noise when turning A/C on. It only does this when the motor warms up to operating temperature though, not when cold. Also my belt squeals real bad after starting the motor after its warmed up and been shut off. I was wondering does this sound like a bad, belt? pulley? U-Joint? mount? or what, after driving it a couple more thousand miles the noise has gotten louder. What should I get replaced?

First thing to do is tighten or replace all the drive belts to eliminate the squeal and with the belts off spin the alternator power steering etc. and listen for bearing noises, start here

That's what mechanic told me so that's what I'm going to do. If that doesn't fix problem what could be next problem? Transmission is what mechanic told me to do next.

One thing at a time, eliminate or prove that the belts and drive bearings are not at fault first,
