The ABS warning light keeps coming on. I usually comes on during the warmer months of the year. During the winter, it usually stays off. It will come on and stay on for a while. Then when I shut the car off and it sits for a while, it will not come on when started. Other times it will stay on for a couple of days. Mostly on when it is warm outside.

It sounds like you have a wheel speed sensor (WSS) that is going out. Here is a guide that will help you confirm the problem and get it fixed.

Once you find the bad sensor replace it, here is a guide that will give you an idea of what you are in for when doing the job.

Brakes problem
1999 Mercury Sable 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 84000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
The ABS light began intermitantly but is now on constantly. A scan results in not being able to communicate. The best guesses I've received is a loose wire at the ABS computer and/or a bad computer. Any thoughts?

I have the same problem, but mine started at about 63K miles. When I had it in for a recall notice, the mechanic at the dealership told me it was a hydraulic problem & that the fix would cost $2500! I had an independent mechanic tell me that if it is the hydraulics, the 2 part numbers I had been given (from the dealership mechanic) are very expensive parts. The downside to all this: I have regular brakes all the time & ABS only part of the time.

If you find out anything more, please let me know!

You could have a bad sensor. Have the computer scanned to identify what is causing the light to come on. Most parts stores will do it for free.

Let me know what you find.
