Car in limp mode .Fault code p1856
Guy I took it to for diagnostic said needs a new gear shift control unit.He is not experienced with mercedes .Could there be another solution as i have been on a numbe r of forums which seem to suggest there m ight be .

I do believe that the problem is in the gear shift control unit.

Does the unit need to be replaced or can it be repaired ie has it shorted?

Will be cheaper and quicker to fit a new unit or if your mechanic can locate a good second hand unit from a wrecker.
