It can't be helped due to the location but I would clear everything out and leave some newspaper to catch whatever possible. Rags nearby would be helpful but be careful with the fluids as it can discolor anything in contact and even strip paints within a short period of time.

The dash need not be taken apart, only the meter cluster. That should give you sufficient space to work with.

Do not disconnect any lines unitl the last possible moment.
