knocking from engine in 2003 axiom

hi i have a 2003 isuzu axiom that knocks when i start the motor and quiets down when it warms up( 5 min). a shop told me that i have to replece the bottom end and he sounded kinda sketchy and just wanted the work if that makes any sense. i need help. i really don't have the two grand to buy a whole new motor

could be a sticky/varnish piston wrist pin. heat loosens it. does your oil pressure read right?

Or lifter/s leakdown-makes a ticking noise but when engine gets to normal temp. it fades away till the next cold start
