Car not turning over after driving?

I have a 2003 hyundai tiburon 4cyl. And not to long ago the engine shut off while i was driving it. I took it to a mechanic and he couldnt find anything wrong with it. So i kept driving it. After about 2 months of no problems i drove it about 30 minutes and stopped to get gas. Once i went to turn the car back on it wouldnt turn over. I waited for about 20min then it started up again and drove fine for another 30minutes. I was scared to drive it but had no choice. I just replaced the thermostat, and now it will turn over after driving it a while. I was wondering if my temp gauge is getting stuck alittle bit less than halfway cause it never goes passed that. It will work normally untill it reaches that point then never goes passed that. Or can this mean my car was just never overheating?

Hello,

As with the temperature gauge it is supposed to stay at the middle mark. That is the operating temperature range. It means that the engine is not overheating.

The stalling issue could be due to a faulty crankshaft position sensor.
The crank sensor sends the engine rotation information to the ECM. Over time with heat and vibration the sensor can lose its internal calibration. This will trigger the sensor to send incorrect/error data to the ECM. Which can shut the engine down. You may or may not be able to start it back up.

The crank sensor is located on the lower part of the engine, next to the flywheel.
