car sounds like popcorn popping

I examined the car and it is coming from the rear driver's side underneath. I am told that it may be a "DMTL" or "charcoal canister."My check engine light is always on and the diagnostic is saying that it is an emissions code. The car runs fine, I just want to know what is wrong with it as I have to get an Etest this month.

P1401, P0442 and P0440 are the codes that I have gotten. My concern is the sound that it is making and the fact that I have an etest coming up.

The only code i can find info on is for the P1401 says diagnostic module tank leakage malfunction.It also says no manufactors diagnostic info available.Thats on mitchell ondemand.cant find any info for the other two codes for that car iam still checking though.

P0442 is EVAP Emission Control System Leak (small) and P0440 is EVAP Emission Control System Malfunction.

I know that but looking up those codes for your car couldnt even find them listed.

So do you only hear the noise with the key on coming from the charcoal canister?Or all the time?Is the noise constant or only certain times?

The noise is only when the car is running and driving. When the car is shut off, it does not make the noise.

Is the noise coming from the external solenoid i see in the pic you posted with hose going to the charcoal canister?

I have the same problem!!! my car (Accent 2003 Automatic) has a sound in the rear-left side when I´m driving (like a stone in the wheel, only when i'm driving)... also, the "Check Engine Light" is lit (code 1401. I rebooted the codes after test). Yesterday I replaced the fuel filter, and cleaned de injectors, but the light is on again today!! my mechanic checks the fuel system and can't find leakage en the fuel system... I need some solution for it!!! thanks very much

I think i'm a problem with the canister but i'm not sure... I have problems when i try supply the gas tank (not matter if it's empty!). I think two problems they're related...
Somebody knows any solution?
