I have a 2003 honda odyssey and Per Honda they said oil leaking from front and rear engine short block above oil pan. Recommended used engine long block with timing belt,2 drive belts, water pump, front oil seal, rear main seal. Ect... I don't understand what they are talking about and why did they say short block leak with replacement of a long block? Does this mean that the block has a crack or defective?

from the description given It MAY have a crack in the block at lifter galley which is referred to china wall. they want to use jb weld or replace the whole block assembly with a used one. If it were me I'd replace the gaskets and seals where I've pointed to with arrows in pic. I've rarely seen an engine block just crack at the top where they seem to be indicating. you can always get another opinion. but if fixing it still had a leak then it may be wasted money .However in that particular area oil is mostly drain back and not much pressure unless it's cracked all the way through to the oil galleys.
