A/C works, then the compressor stops working after a short time, maybe 10-20 minutes. If the car is left to rest for hours, it will work again for a while.
I found: Compressor clutch relay was hot to the touch.
Swapped with another relay, condition unchanged.
Removed the relay and jumped the power to engage clutch and it does not engage.
I put a test light on the A/C control point of the relay and the light stays on even when A/C switch is turned off.

Hi,

When it won't work, did you check for power to the clutch? Also, if you look at the pics below, note that there are two places on the relay that will have power all the time.

If you look at the pic below, the black wire provides power to one side of the relay when the key is on. When the PCM provides a ground, then the relay closes, and the power goes from fuse 1 (indicated in red) to the clutch.

Fuse 1 should have power at all times. So, the idea that you have a point where there is power with the system off makes sense.

I have a feeling the clutch on the compressor is the issue. Check to see if the supply at the clutch is present when it turns off.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Yes, there is still power to the clutch.
I just ran the car and the clutch chattered for about 5 minutes, and then just disengaged.
I agree it is likely the clutch. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

You are very welcome. I added a couple of tests below for the clutch in case you wanted to double check.

Let me know if you need anything. Also, if I don't hear from you, I hope you have a great Christmas.

Take care,

Joe
