Is my battery dead, my alternator bad, or something else?

2003 gmc envoy. battery not charging light came on while driving. got home and parked it and turned it off. I jumpstarted it but none of guages were working, auto transmission wouldn't shift and when i turned it off key is stuck in ignition

charge the battery if you can, take to an auto parts store an dthey can check it or sears, etc. make sure your steering wheel lock isn't stopping the ign switch from turning.and gear is in right position.then have the charging system checked.
