The constant control relay module controls the fuel pump, see pic for location. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Look for a fuse box under the hood. Typically there is a cover to remove, and a sticker under that cover will show the locations of each fuse and relay. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

1999 Ford Mustang mileage: 106,000.The other day my car stopped dead in the middle of the road. The computer gives me the 542 code.According to my repair manual, that means Fuel pump secondary circuit failure: ECM to ground motor. Now, I have no idea what that means.I'm trying to located the fuel pump relay switch to test it. The fuel pump, filter, and spark plugs have all passed their test. However, the manual doesn't mention the location of the relay.Where is the fuel pump relay located in a 91-2.3L Mustang?

Hello,

The fuel pump relay is located in the CCRM under the hood on the right side. Here is a guide to test it with the location of the relay below.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

No ground to fuel pump. I can make pump run with grounding jumper wire but car does not start. I'm trying to find out where the ground wire in the fuel pump wiring finds it' ground/safety relay? run relay? all the diagrams just show it going to ground.

Hello,

The fuel pump relay in your vehicle is contained in module called the Constant Control Relay Module in the right fender well under the splash guard. It also controls the hi speed engine cooling fan, low speed engine cooling fan, fuel pump, PCM and air conditioning compressor clutch. If you are supply power to your fuel pump and you still have a no start, then can you please confirm for me that you are getting spark. Please go to the link below to learn how.

Please get back to us with what you find out. I also included some vehicle specific things in the diagrams down below for you.

Thanks,
Alex

When we first hooked up/tapped into the connected fuel pump harass with manual ground lead we had 70 psi and I do not remember it changing while we were cranking it over. however, when it started and ran we noted the fuel psi at 20. I know this is low but don't believe it's keeping it from starting. my gut tells me it has something to do with where the ground wire finds it self to ground. is there a relay or module or CPU on the grounding circuit? can't find a detailed schematic.

Hello again,

Okay, I got confused for a second because I own a 1997 supercharged mustang gt. Yours has a returnless fuel system, while mine has a return style fuel system. Hence my mistake. Okay, I have put some information for you in the diagrams below. Please go through it and let me know what you find out.

Thanks,
Alex

Okay, I did not get a chance to run your suggested test , but I do have more information when I go out and start the car after a few days i turn the key on and the check engine light comes on and its starts then I turn it off and try to start it again and no check engine light and it won't start this seems to be consistent, hooked up code reader to it , no codes KOER no codes KOEO using a Bosch code reader codes were read both when car was running and when it wont start , I did note that when I was reading individual sensors that fuel 1 was open and fuel 2 was n/a, okay , what do you think? now I'm thinking it has something to do with the main computer at the kick panel passenger side floorboard. I was thinking ignition switch for a minute but I cycled the key many times trying to see if it was a shady connection there, I don't think that's it now. too many things to do and not enough hours in the day to do them. by the way how is your day?

One more thing, can I change the computer from another car without reprogramming for chipped key? thinking of grabbing one from the wrecking yard.

Hello,

No. If you swap out Powertrain Control Module's (PCM) AKA,"computer", you must have the key reprogrammed to it or the Passive Anti Theft System (PATS) will not let your vehicle start.

Thanks,
Alex

If you are able to jump the relay, then there is power there. Are you sure you didn't get a bad ir the wrong relay? If the power is there, it should work.

I've tried 4 relays two from auto zone two from ford.It should still prime when I turn the key? I can't get any noise unless jumped this car just wants to stay in the garage. I checked for spark today had spark at #1 . This car just does not want to start. Is it possible that there is enough fuel pressure it doesn't need to run when started, maybe I should be looking in a different direction. It turns over great I open to any suggestions at this point. There is fuel pressure in the line it squirts out from the valve when depressed. Please help this old mustang get back on the road again

Hi:
If you are getting fuel to the injectors, there must be a problem with the injection system itself. I am going to forward this problem to a friend who is much better at fuel injection than I am. He will get back with you ASAP.

you need to test fuel pressure in system also in the back of your car (hatch?) there is a small black grommet protecting a hole, inside that hole you can reach a reset button on your fuel pump. maybe give that a whirl??
89 Mustang fuel relay

should be in the trunk on the drivers side, at some point Ford moved it to the fuse block at your left foot.

The fule pump relay is actually under the drive side seat. Its very unusal for a relay to go out unless you have a short some where. A commont problem in early 90 fords are relay harness connections and wiring components. Its more likley that the harness under the drive seat has a loose connection check by pulling the wires from the back of the harness lightly to see if they are loose. if they are secure and snug, trace the line under the carpet and it runs directly to the fuse box under your left foot if you are seated in the driver side chair.
