My car (ford fiesta 1.4 zetec) which i recently bought (4 months back) started making a ticking/screeching noise.

I went to the garage and they told to replace the Power steering pump and the fluid. total cost including labour quted around £380. I recently did a full service worth of £170.

It happen the moment you start the engine and couldnt find any difference when you accelerate or chaning gear or pressing the clutch or even steering.

The sound reduce/stop at times though or after running for a while.

Any suggestion are welcome and is it worth spending that money as i may have to spend 1/5 of the total cost of the car.

Regards,
Aj

Can you tell if the noise is coming from the pump?

They why are they saying you need a new pump? That does't make sense.

Yes, i am not sure why they say so. I paid the £75.00 (for 2 hour diagnosis) and taken my car out from that garage.

I drove for around 4-5 miles and to my surpirise, so far there are no noise. But i am not sure when will it start again though.
I am planning to gave it to Ford dealer for a check up when it start again.
