2003 Ford Expedition Engine Oil gasket

The only thing I can think of would be if the car has an engine cooler or if the valve cover started leaking really bad. As far as the oil pump, it is inside the engine, so that isn't the issue. Is there any way you could take a picture of the gasket you found and upload it for me to see? I would have a better idea of where it came from. The oil filter, if you have the smaller of the two engines, could be on the passenger side, so that could be an issue. I know the 5.4L has the filter on the driver's side.

The picture won't open for me. Check where I said as far as the oil filter. Most of these with the 4.6L engine have a remote filter location under the passenger side fender. My guess is that it has come apart or a line has ruptured.

another pic ..attached.. Im positive it's a oil filter gasket, but how could it detatch? ...Im going to drop the oil pan and changed the oil pan gasket, no relation to the oil filter gasket, just fill the need to do it.. really concern how that oil filter gasket got loose

For some reason I can't see the pic. As far as an oil filter gasket, they are aprox 2 inches in diameter. The only way it can come off is if the filter is removed. Chances are the one you found was from an old filter and it fell off when it was last serviced.

As far as the oil pan, it isn't as easy as you think. I believe the engine needs lifted to remove it. If there are no leaks from it, I wouldn't touch it.

Thanks for the insight on the oil filter gasket.. I have a few resources that I use to confirm parts .. rockauto.com, & my local ford dealer ship.. I'll print a image show them and they give me the specs.. I am knee deep in this 03 expedition.. 150k.. changed all coils and plugs, fuel filter, changed differential rear & front oil .. O2 sensors 2 of 4 .. cleaned throttle body, MAS, intake air gasket, Moon roof switch, just finished putting in new window regular.. Not fun!!..recently I discovered a lot of oil on my front left tire and rim.. I thought my front axel was leaking.. that's when I found the gasket in the engine bay.. .. Im cleaning underneath the engine as much as I can just to see where the leak is coming form??

I have a leak in my differential rear.. I was told it's coming from the front bearing seal.. I would like to take on the repair myself.. would I need a press to seat the sealed bearing?

I need to know where it is leaking. Is it the pinion seal, axle seal, differential cover gasket...

Yes the leak is coming from the front pinion seal

Once you remove the driveshaft and the yoke, you can pry the old seal out with a screwdriver or some other device. However, you will need a puller to remove the pinion flange. Also, make sure to mark the pinion flange and drive pinion gear so they go back in the same position they came apart. Failure to do this can cause a balance issue which in turn will cause a vibration while driving. When installing it, make sure everything is clean and lubricate both the housing and the new seal with gear lube. To install the new seal normally requires a special tool which is the same diameter as the seal but open in the center to miss the drive pinion gear. If you have a socket which is the same diameter as the seal, it will work. Just make sure the seal is fully seated. Once the new seal is installed, line up the pinion flange with the gear and tighten to the recommended torque as listed on the chart I provided. . Before reinstalling the yoke, lubricate the rubber part of the seal with oil so the yoke slides into place easily and doesn't damage the new seal.
