Whats the ticking in my engine?

I bought a used (2003 dodge ram 1500 quad cab 4.7 engine) yesterday and i have noticed a ticking noise. I have read about it being a "LIFTER OR/AND ROCKET ARM? I need advice what could it be?

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge if okay-this is when you use a doctor's ear on the valve cover and listen for a ticking, tapping and clattering noises indicating a valve lifter/rocker arm problems

So is it hard to do?? Could it be explained or does it have to be done by a mechanic??

Best just have it checked by a competent technician
