instrument cluster

Do an internet search for one of the places that do cluster repairs. They will be able to tell you if the replacement cluster can have the correct mileage programmed in or if you have to send the old cluster along. They usually work with dealerships that verify the correct mileage to insure someone isn't trying to roll back the car's actual mileage.

ok but can you tell me if the mileage is stored in the cluster or computer?if I put in a cluster out of another vehicle, will it show the mileage of that vehicle in mine?

The instrument cluster IS a computer module. The mileage is stored in an "EEPROM", (electronically erasable programmable read-only memory), but it is also stored in the Body Computer and the Engine Computer. The mileage displayed in the odometer will not change when you replace the Body or Engine Computers, but by '03 there is a PIN number that must be retrieved with the Chrysler DRB3 scanner and entered after the replacement computer is installed. Those are the two computers involved with the anti-theft system. You won't need to do that for the instrument cluster.

I have heard stories about some vehicles showing the correct mileage after the instrument cluster was replaced, but I think that is when a new one is installed that has 000 miles. They learn the mileage from the Body Computer. A used cluster already has a mileage in its memory so the Body Computer won't know it's a different one that needs to be corrected.
