while tring to jump my car i connected the jumper cable to the battery then the red {positive}cable to the alternator housingand the car went haywire ,what did i mess up

You connected the positive to the alt housing? If that is correct, you shorted out the other battery. As far as damage to your car, chances are nothing happened. Are you having trouble?
