oxygen sensor replacement?

The bank 1 sensor is accessed from the top of the engine reaching over the rear, it requires a long extension and a 7/8" crowfoot or sensor socket. The bank 2 in front, is accessed from below after the lower shield is removed. The front of the frame may be lowered a bit for more access.

Spray it with some penetrant, and try it when it is warm. If it has been overtightened, the threads may have stretched. You may need a thread chaser(14mm spark plug tap) to clean the threads after removal.

I pulled code p135 on my scanner and the result is sensor 1 bank 1, this is the Co2 sensor at the back of the engine. ( Northstar V8 )
Can I not get the sensor out ! the thing is laughing at my attempts, has anyone found a trick to removing the faulty part ( and yes I did have the engine hot and burned my hands too ! )

If you have tried it hot, and cold, and it still won't loosen, there is not much choice but to remove the manifold. What tools are you using? It is a 7/8" hex, and a crowfoot, or sensor socket is advised. If you are not slipping around it, and you are committed to get it out, then give it all you got. I have even adapted up to 1/2" drive to break them loose. If it pulls some threads, you can use a standard spark plug thread chaser to clean the hole up.

Yep, I'm using a sensor socket, guess I'll have to get angry and turn green to get it out !

Where is it and how do you change it?

bank 1 is located on the side of the car engine that the #1 cylinder is on car right after the exhaust manifold before the catalytic converter. simply unhook the wires and then simply unbolt the sensor.

no connection to the issue. it is a control code for the heater in the o2 sensor only. most likely a bad sensor and would have to be replaced.

it is on the rear exhaust manifold

Replacing oxygen senser,after market sensor has to be spliced to old sensor plug. Wires on old plug has 2 brown,1 tan 1 purple wire. New sensor has 2 white,1 black,1 grey wire.My question is what wires should be spliced together?

with out knowing what brand of O2 sensor you have, theres no way of knowing what is what, even with that info i may be hard to track down the wire code.. is there anything on the package re instructions...

take it back and go get a GM one, your only going to cause problems in the long run

The car is driven very little, as the mileage will indicate. A local parts house read the "service engine soon" light problem and the #2 O2 sensor was what was indicated.

do you have code #? #2 sensor is not enough info.

No, I do not have the code.. The parts guy showed me the sensor, and said that it is in the rear exhaust manifold. How to get to it is the main question. It must be near it's plug in - since the leads are only about 12" long.

so have you snooped around back there to try n locate it?

Nope... other than from the top (nothing really visable past the valce cover).. and laying on my side - I can see the Cat converter.. but the exhaust coming to it has nothing.. almost has to be in the manifold above that.

yah it's a bugger. try getting behind from fender area. use hand to try and feel it on manifold.
