What would make this car hard to start about once a week? But only for the owner?

This is a 2003 Buick Century 3.1 v6. Most of the time it cranks on the 1st time and runs just as it should. When this hard to start problem occurs it will not start unless you pump the accelerator while starting it. Even then it sometimes goes dead.
