I have a 2003 745Li. Bought new and never missed a service. All services were performed by BMW dealer. At 100,000 miles service called for new spark plugs and transmission fluid. Since then the car has sputtered at slow speeds (20-30 mph). After shutting car off, if engine is warm, the car when put in gear has little to no power. First time back to the dealer they said it was the air filter; so new air filter installed. Second time back they said it was the pollution control valve; so new pcv. This time back they found nothing wrong so took the head off and said I have a bad piston that is causing metal shavings to get into the fuel chamber. They want 7,000 euros for a new piston or 13,000 euros for a new engine. Bluebook value of the car is 15,000 euros. Find it hard to believe that a piston would malfunction now. On the autobahn at 120 mph the car runs fine. Your thoughts? Perry A. Colvin
