The car dashboard started displaying the error TRANS FAIL SAFE PROG when I stopped or started. The effect was that car was in limp mode and could hardly go over a hill. On connecting to a troubleshooting computer we got the error code p0705 which I was told was related to the gear lever sensor switch. There was no physical issues that could be spotted so I was told to buy a new sensor.
I have however since noted that the error does not come when I start the car on neutral. I now turn the ignition to position two, shift he gear to neutral and then start the car. It drives normally with no issues until I stop and shift the gear to parking.
My question is whether this observation of starting the car in neutral can give a better clue as to what is wrong.
