2002 VW Cabrio- just had head gasket re gasketed.

Had head gasket leak...had head gasket honed and regasketed...drove away and it now sounds like a diesel and it is only on acceleration...idle or cruising sound disappears...mechanic said it may be an exhaust lifter??? I didn't have the noise and the engine light is now on which wasn't like that before my mechanic did the head gasket job..any ideas???

Possible ignition timing too far advanced or camshaft timing is out.

Take it to someone who knows vw's.

Should be a free repair if you take it back to the guy that replaced the head gasket.

The person who did the work on the head should be fixing this at no cost.
