headlight does not work

if these are HID headlight, then the controller may have failed. have the voltage checked to the controller to verify.

Which fuses did you check? You have fuses in the engine compartment and also on the left side of the dashboard. Open the drivers door and on side of dash remove the cover and inspect the fuses there also if you have not. Let us know what you find.

The drivers side low beam headlight went out. Bought a new one. (H-7). Installed it and on the dash message board it says low beam dipped and the new bulb will not come on. Passenger side work's fine. Alot of people online seem to have same problem with one guy replacing whole casing and others the harnesses relays fuses and nothing works but never heard what does work. Any idea what causes the low beam dipped light come on and the low beam doesn't just on one side? Passenger side works just fine. Thanks

Hello and welcome to 2CarPros. Reading over your concern it does appear as you have a fuse that has blown. Check all your fuses in the engine compartment and the ones on the driver side. Here is a link on fuses that should be helpful:

The left and right side beams have there own fuses. And if memory serves me right from working at a Volvo dealership you should have a left and right beam fuse in the engine compartment and on the left side of the dashboard. Let us know how the fuses are

So that would make the dash message board say dipped low beam? I will check them tomorrow. Thanks. I have a feeling the fuses won't be the problem since so many have had the same problem and fuses wasn't the answer. But l never could find out what did work. I'll check them tomorrow. Thanks.

Since the dip beam (low beam headlight) is not coming on it can cause that message to come on since there is an open in the circuit. Worse case scenario would be you have an open circuit in the wiring.

Just to add to it. There is a fuse for individual light in the engine compartment and on the fuses on the side of drivers side dashboard when you open the door. One of those fuses can be burnt out.

Alright I'll check them out tomorrow. So l left the park lights on and the battery went dead. I have found out that when that happens and the doors are locked and you still have your keys you still can't get in. The key fob or the key will open the door. This model does not have the hidden key or slot. You are screwed and l had to pay $75.00 to get into my own car holding the keys.

Also I want to thank you for your time. I'll let you know about the fuses. I just bought this car 5 days ago and it has been a pain in the you know what. Other than some minor stuff like the headlight it seems alright and hoping it's a fuse and l don't have to track down a short.

Both low beams quit working at the same time on my 01 V70. I installed 2 new bulbs with no luck. I changed the 2-10amp fuses in the cockpit and engine compartment, with no luck. There are no error messages....except for "bulb position failure" which has been on long before low beams stopped working. High beams and all other lights work fine. Any ideas??

First the position bulb failure message means you have one of your running lights out. Could be in the front or the rear? As for your front low beams, did you actually check for power going through the fuse? A simple test light and probing the fuse at both points should show you have power or not? If not check fuse #3 in the cockpit and make sure there is power going through that fuse. That fuse powers up the low beam relay which then power goes through another relay called a shunt which then passes power through the 2 10 amp fuses you replaced powering up the low beam bulbs. The relay box is actually the central electronic module. To access you need to remove the drivers sound proof panel. The panel is the one with the little door for acess to the diagnostic link connector where you would plug in the scanner. Once removed look up to the left of the brake pedal and you will see the module with fuses, relays, and shunts. It is hard to remove from it's location so that you can lower it down and have access to the relay. There is a catch you need to pray on with a flat tip screw driver located towards the left? Why they put it there I dont know? Once you figure out how to release it to lower it down relay CM17 is the low beam relay. Swapp with CM14 (high beam relay) and recheck lights. If they come on you have a bad relay. If not look at shunt CSH4 that is for low beams also. Swapp with any one of the shunts available and see if the lights come on. If it does then it is a bad shunt If they still dont come on then you wil need to take it in to your local garage or Volvo dealer for further diagnosis? From there it could be a bad light switch or the Central Electronic Module itself could be bad or you have an open circuit somewhere in the wiring. Tried attaching the picture of the CEM but comes out too small read? Maybe I can email it to you?

I don't think the security system is working either. It comes up on the dash message system every now and again.

So l checked the fuse panel and the fuse inside the car panel fuse box was blown. Replaced it and everything is up and running. Thanks everyone.
