2002 Volkswagen Polo Faulty electric window driver side

My window was originally in the down position and stopped working. When trying to close it there is a clicking/grinding noise but e window does not move at all.
I have since had the window manually shut as a temp measure.
Is this is a common fault and what is the approx price for repair?

The window regulator can be found on the 'net for approximately $200 U.S. Or you can purchase the reugulator kit for about $100 U.S.
As far as labor is concerned, that will depend on your area. Some shops charge more than others - so you'll have to shop around for the best price.
