timing belt car it doesnt exceed the 2800 rpm

i changed my timing belt of a vw golf mk4 2002 1.4 16v and when i try to drive the car it doesnt exceed the 2800 rpm and there is a noise in the engine... what is the problem ? is there a mark on the camshaft pulleys where suppost you have to insert the timing belt cause i didnt find them

All we have for references in Mit1 is for a 1.9/2.0 liter engines-sorry -What you need to do here is put the engine no.1 piston on its compression stroke/TDC and align the cam and crank markings before you install the timing belt as indicated in the repair manual-

I know this is an old post, but in case someone else is reading this...

This engine has 2 toothed belts, one belt that connects both camshafts
and one belt that connects the camshaft sprocket to the crankshaft
sprocket.

There is a mark on the crankshaft sprocket or harmonic balancer
and both camshaft sprockets have marks that need to align.
