When the pressure dropped, was there any ticking or knocking coming from the engine?

Let me know.

no. engine runs fine. a mechanical oil pressure gauge is being used to monitor the pressure. initially it was 50-65lb at a fast idle, 25lb at idle. now it is down to near zero at idle and not much more at fast idle. when the oil pan was dropped to replace the pump there was a about 1.5 inches deep of sludge packed into the oil pan. oil pickup was clean.

The only thing can be another bad oil pump or excessive bearing wear causing the low pressure. Or, I wonder if the pick up is clogged. You mentioned how much sludge was in the pan. I wonder it there was a lot in the engine that made its way to the oil pump.

I think you are right about the sludge. I checked the vehicle yesterday and all is fine. I do think that what is needed is a good engine flush and some fresh oil. Thanks.

Let me know if it helps. My concern is the pick up tube is plugged. I hope a good flush cleans it. Let me know if it helps.
