Charcoal Canister replacement

With those code's it is possible to have a bad Charcoal Canister without doing some diagnosing can't tell you for sure.
Vapor Canister 7774006111 $274.45 that is the part number and price for the factory canister.The labor is 2.1hrs time's there shop labor rate so 300 sound's high for the labor unless there labor rate is like 150 per hr and if it is i would find a different shop because that is a way too high labor rate. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Hi, Does Charcoal Canister gets Rusty ? is it made of metal ? for me it looks like plastic.

Toyota service changed valve vaccum SWI first after 10 days now they are saying they need to replace Charcoal Canister as it is rusty.

I am not sure if they are telling stories and taking me for a ride.

I think you should go somewhere else-majority of the charcoal canister I have seen is made out of plastic-

one last question.. Even Orginal toyota part is made of plastic I guess and once it is made of plastic I dont know how he can tell it is rusty. Crazy..

With current economic situation I am trying to save these people provide false information and take me for a ride.

Your welcome -remove the charcoal canister and shake it if you hear it rattling inside-replace it

How do i replace the carbon canister the one back by the gas tank on a 99 camry. Do I need to remove the muffler. how many bolts hold it in place

The carbon canister is actually under the car near the back. Here is a picture of the HVAC system for a 99 Camry. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

Iam referring to the Vapor seperator. The shop caled it a charcoal canister. Said they smoke tested it and it was bad causing code P0446. said it would cost $680 to replace. Will I need to remove the muffler to get this bad boy out

You will need to remove the fuel tank but you should be able to work it around the exhaust system.

I would like to know where I can get a great priced charcoal canister for my 2000 Camry LE, & how to install it. It should not take more than an hour I'm told.

best place is to get it from the dealer. basically you undo the hoses on it and remove the bolts then take out. I think you have to undo the muffler to get it out. Its a tight squeeze.

My catalytic converter only smells when i get on the gas or when i climb a hill. The smell is not constant and goes away pretty quick. I hate to replace the vapor canister, but I am getting an engine code of p0406. I heard the codes can be more than one item. I just want to try and narrow it down. The canister alone is over $200. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure where your getting any of this but PO406 is an EGR code and it doesn't even apply to your vehicle.

Well, I am confused. I hooked up my scanner and received the code P0406 and I put my software in with my vehicle information and it said Auxiliary Emissions Control. I visited google and typed in the code and it says its for my car. hmmmm

So, I see under another website, that the code is generic. I did also notice some information under Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit High. Could the egr cause the catalytic converter to smell every now and then. MY apologies as I am a woman, and my husband calls my toyota a lemon cause he is a chevy man. I just try to research things on my own.

The equipment your using is completely unreliable. This needs to be scanned using a professional scan tool to get accurate information. That does not apply to your vehicle.

I see, well useless scanner then. What if i go to Autozone and get them to check the engine light. Is there scanner more professional.

Not really. Most of the OBD2 generic stuff that they sell is just DIY tools that gets very basic info out of the computer and is not programmed for any specific vehicle. You should at least be able to get an accurate code number from them though. You have to realize that when you compare the tools they sell for $100 to $200 that they aren't even close to the equipment and software that we pay $5,000 to $20,000 and more for. They try to make a cheap tool that will do the basic job but they are just full of incompatibilities.

Wow, so my $50 buck tool isn't worth a crap. Well do you have any suggestions on why my car has the rotten egg smell only while I am getting on the gas from a complete stop.

You need to get accurate codes first.
