my heater blows cold air until the cabin heat level is set to 85 and above. This problem was not gradual it was more all of a sudden.

With auto temp, it could be anything from a bad thermostat, bad blend door actuator, or bad controller panel. Believe it or not, the codes can be read at Subaru to pinpoint your problem, this will save hours of searching and wrong part replacement.
