Hi! I am currently trying to change the oil filter on our old 2002 Saturn SL2 Sedan, and it has been a nightmare trying to replace the oil filter. So far we have tried the following filters to replace the original one, which is too old to recognize where it originated from (it's red and says something like Filtech but the paint is chipped off). The filters that did not work are:
- Baldwin Filters BT223
- ACDelco 19472563 PF53
- FRAM Extra Guard PH3614
- NAPA ProFormer Filters 21348
The original maintenance book for the car only gives the Oil Filter number which is 21000872. We believe that the threads may not be the right length or size, as we cannot get the filters to turn far enough to close a small gap between the engine.
My question is what to do at this point, I'm starting to believe they don't make oil filters to fit this car anymore or if we are just having trouble finding the right one. I'd hate to think we might have to scrap the car regardless since they are no longer making parts for Saturn's anyway. But if you have any insight or advice on this, I'd greatly appreciate it. Of course, if you need more information I'd be happy to provide. I am not super knowledgeable on cars, but I'd like to be able to resolve this problem since the car has a few more years left in her at least. That's wishful thinking of course!
