Have you checked for vacuum leaks?Those 2000-2002 single cam engines are known for leaking vacuum around the number one intake port because of miss installed intake manifold gaskets from the factory.Also hav you checked the coolant temp sensor yet?

would it have anything to do withe the transmission because as soon as i take it out of park the idle jumps up between 1 and 2 and it idles at or below 1 when in par but i will check for vacum leaks

So even in neutral it idles that high?Lets try this remove the negative battery cable for a couple of mins then out it back on.Let me know if that corrects the corrects the idle.
