idle speed low(500rpm)when warm

I had the lifters replaced 6 mos. ago & after 2 wks. noticed the idle speed dropped from around 850-900 rpm to 500 rpm. When I brought the car back to the shop, they said"it was like that when you brought it in" I've been driving the car for 8 years with the idle higher. Any ideas?? thanx!
