why does my 2002 nissan xterra rattle when i turn my heat on?

it only does it when i turn the heat on, and it sounds as if its coming from the dash..

could be the cage of the heater blower motor.
does it increase in speed with the blower??

Yes, when I turn the heat up the sound gets louder..

the cage that is part of the blower motor has failed. you replace the blower motor and the cage as a unit.
