We think that a coolant temperature sensor has went bad on our vehicle, but we are not sure. The vehicle will not start when cold until you press the gas. Are we correct?

Maybe yes and maybe no. You need to diagnose the problem and find the cause. Guessing can be costly replacing components that are good and time wasting.

Start with a check for trouble codes. A faulty MAF would do the same thing.
