New alternator and new battery led me to believe that the reason for no charge had to be the connection. The positive battery cable was corroded on the red cable and the black one leading to the same terminal was burned. So I attempted to splice it with a Lynx O.E./battery cable (part# 07764) from auto zone. I connected each of main wires into the sleeved inputs. Then connected the smaller red wire coming off the main red wire to the one with a yellow butt on it. Started the car then it died. After that it would only make a horrible sound when turning over. And there it's a burn Mark on the battery next to the positive terminal. What did I do wrong

It sounds like the connection has bad, possible because it was not tight. Here is a guide to help you do the job correctly.
