Hi, my boyfriend owns a 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML 500 and he purchased it used after he got out of the Army a couple years ago. It was running just fine until the battery died sometime this past winter. He changed it to a Duralast battery not sure what kind, but it would die and not start. We took it back to Auto Zone and they told him the battery is good. I would have to jump his vehicle and it starts but later after about a day or so it dies.
We called for roadside assistance and the guy said it might be a faulty battery or the alternator. We didn't have any problems until the previous battery died. So he took it to a family owned auto mechanic shop, this is the third time he's taken it in and they have not figured out what's causing the electrical problems. First time, they shut off the source to move the seats. Second time, manually turned off the windows and now the heater.
What do you possibly think is wrong? I told my boyfriend to just take it to the Mercedes dealership because I don't want him to get ripped off. He already spent about a couple grand having these guys try to fix the problem. I thought maybe it's not the proper voltage of the battery or he may need a new starter or alternator. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!
