My question is that my car just started to display a battery alternator error message for the first time and i seen some smoke come from the front and the steering wheel became hard to turn what is my problem.

Given the combination of symptoms, most likely the belt is slipping that runs the power steering pump and generator. As for the cause, that's what you pay mechanics to figure out. Could be an item locking up or could be the belt is loose.
