Sometimes I get this grinding on the front brakes and I am unable to stop. This happens when I try to brake on wet or snowy roads.

The front pads will be metal to metal, the rotors will probably be destroyed by now, get the front brakes checked ASAP.

It is not metal on metal grinding on the rotor. The brakes are fine in dry conditions. I think maybe grinding is the wrong word. It is like a continuous hitting sound. It happens when I depress the brakes a little bit harder. In the snow, mainly, but it has happened in the rain.

check the drive shaft end nut is tight, check any dust shields on the shaft and also that the rotor backing plate is not loose and moving around and touching the rotor.

Wow, I read somewhere that it could be the ABS kicking in. Maybe I need new tires.

Better go get a scan and see if there is a problem with the ABS.
