I tested the fuel pressure using a test kit. Registered at 40psi, stepped on the gas then the pressure dropped to 33psi. I changed the fuel filter.

Recommendations on replacement brand/type, etc?

The pressure spec for this engine is 41 to 55PSI and should NEVER go below that. The pressure should actually increase when accelerating. It appears you have a bad fuel pump.

Wrenchtech,

Thanks for the reply!

I took the advice and replaced the fuel pump. then tested the fuel pressure again.... registered at 42psi and increased to 48psi when i stepped on the gas. Thought the problem was fixed but took it for a test drive around the block and the vehicle has the same issues..... top speed of 10mpg, stuttering, bogs down when i step on the gas, check engine light on, then she died on me. i sat there for a few mins and then it started again. it's feels like it's a fuel line/pressure issue but could it be something else? any advice with this is greatly appreciated!

wrenchtech... the code came up as "#2 cylinder misfire" and i knew that wasn't the issue so i ended up bringing it in for a professional diagnostic test... catolytic converter was the issue. she runs like a dream now. thanks for assisting and i'll recommend this site to anyone with vehicle issues and is a "do it yourself".
