Replacing the tailgate lock linkage of your 2002 Isuzu Axiom can be a bit tricky, especially if the tailgate is stuck closed. Here's a general outline of the process you might follow, but bear in mind that this is a general guide and actual methods may differ based on the specific vehicle.

If the tailgate lock is not functioning, the common method to open the tailgate is to access the lock mechanism from the inside of the car:

Remove the Inner Panel: Start by removing the inner tailgate panel. The process might be challenging if the tailgate won't open, but it's usually doable. You'll typically need to remove several screws or bolts around the edge of the panel. Depending on your vehicle, there may also be clips holding the panel in place, which you'll need to carefully pry out.

Access the Lock Mechanism: Once you have the inner panel off, you should be able to see the lock mechanism.

Manually Open the Lock: The mechanism will usually have a rod or some type of linkage that connects the lock cylinder to the latch. You may be able to manually manipulate this linkage to open the latch and get the tailgate open. Use a flat-head screwdriver or pliers to do this, but be careful not to break the linkage.

Once the tailgate is open, replacing the lock linkage is usually straightforward:

Remove the Old Linkage: You'll need to disconnect the linkage from the lock cylinder and the latch, which usually involves removing some clips.

Install the New Linkage: Connect the new linkage to the lock cylinder and latch, making sure to securely fasten any clips.

Test the Lock: Before you put everything back together, make sure to test the lock to ensure that it's working properly.

Reinstall the Inner Panel: Once you're sure that the lock is working, you can put the inner panel back on.
