just brought a 2002 terracan and low 4wd doesn't seem to be working no dash light comes on when switched into low, but does briefly when first turn ignition on

Check the switch and its wiring. During initial ignitin on, the indicator light would come on to indicate it is woking but when shifting into "low" the switch would be the one telling it to come on.
