My questions are regarding a 2002 Honda Odyssey with a tad over 89,000 miles on her.
My questions are in regard to replacing the timing belts, water pump, tensioners...etc...
At this moment the vehicle is running smoothly and fine, but I just read that Honda recommends 7 years of 120,000 miles...maximum, before replacing the timing belt.
I plan to have the work done in either Rhode Island, Massachusetts. New Hampshire, Maine or Connecticut in the next couple of weeks....depending on where I can get it done the least expensively. Do you have a recommendation regarding which state is the least expensive? (I am on a very tight budget and have only the one vehicle)
What all should I have done during this job to ensure maximizing the labor costs and minimize the chance that I will be paying the same labor costs in the near term...because I failed to get something done the first time around (ie timing belt, tensioners, water pump....)???
I have done some research on the cost of the parts (including water pump, tensioners...etc) Even at retail prices the parts are easily under $300. I have read that I should buy good parts on my own. Could recommend a good source for the Honda Odyssey parts? Does under $300 sound accurate for the parts?
I have been told that it should take 5 hours or less to complete the job. Can you give me an accurate estimate of how long this job should take?
How likely is it that I will find a reputable, certified mechanic who will agree to install the parts that I have purchased? Have you ever heard of a dealership doing this? What should I plan on paying per hour for the labor?
I have talked to several shops to see how much it will cost me to have this job done. For parts and labor the lowest price I was quoted was $750 and the highest was $1,200. Does this sound too high, considering the parts at retail are under $300.00 and the job time should be for under 5 hours?
I need to make a decision and move forward within the next couple of weeks, as I only have the one vehicle and I don't want to have a belt brake...
